Examination and Certification
Upon completion of the online theory course and practice exam students will receive a certificate of participation. Following this, students will be given the option to register for a St Cecilia external theory examination. The exam is offered to students of the online theory course at a discounted price. Following registration, St Cecilia will contact the student or their parents/teacher to arrange a convenient time and place for their external exam to take place.
In this way, if they so desire, students of the online theory course will be able to access accreditation and certification resulting from the successful completion of a St Cecilia external exam.
St Cecilia has reduced normal exam fees for students of the online course to give students a clear goal to work towards. It is our experience that students of music respond well to incentive based learning systems. The inclusion of the opportunity for an official examination gives students that incentive and goal – an important aspect of self-directed learning - and also provides a transparent, credible and convenient method for assessment of the theory course.
Through successful completion of an official St Cecilia Theory exam students will receive a credible qualification that may be translated for high school credit.* They will also have officially completed their entire course of music theory and will be ready to continue, with confidence, to the higher theory levels.
